Self-Paced, Online Learning Opportunity

Steve serves as the Director/primary instructor of the University of Michigan's Web-based Addictions Certificate Program, an online, self-paced training resource that provides up to 90 hours of high-quality material that advances the addictions practice knowledge and skills of participants.

Recent course evaluation yielded the following feedback in response to the question of "What are some of the strengths of this program?" which features a monthly, live, remote Q & A session with Steve, as part of its unique, interactive program design.

  • "Some of the strengths are the resources provided, and teaching aids that made things more interesting. Instructor, Steve Wiland, is very knowledgeable and helpful. The feedback Q&A’s are also helpful to get immediate feedback on questions we may have."

  • "I like how it is designed with all helping professions in mind. Even though I'm an occupational therapist everything was easy for me to understand. I also like how there are three tracks so I can spread things out and not get too overwhelmed."

  • "I think the instructor, Steve Wiland, was beyond excellent. The question and answer sessions were incredible and I walked away each time understanding more deeply the concepts behind what we do as well as extremely practical, nitty-gritty details of how to apply what we were learning. Each question and answer session I walked away with something that literally changed my life and practice. The content was extremely engaging and helpful. I cannot speak highly enough of this program. I appreciated the format of not having the pressure of deadlines so that I could actually focus on learning the information."

  • "Definitely the multiple learning styles. I really like how there are video lectures, power point documents to print and follow along, journal articles, worksheets, etc. The fact that it is self paced is invaluable. I work in an emergency room setting and don't have consistent free time, so I have to be able to work at my own pace. I also liked the [online] meeting with the director and other students. It was way better than I thought it was going to be. Professor Wiland is so knowledgeable and was able to provide great feedback to many people and there was good idea sharing between participants. I really enjoyed it."
