SAMHSA's Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) Series
Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) series publications offer best-practice guidelines for the treatment of substance use disorders and other behavioral health conditions. The federal government's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has drawn on the experience and knowledge of clinical, research, and administrative experts to produce the TIP series, which are distributed to a growing number of facilities and individuals across the country. The audience for TIP series publications has expanded beyond public and private substance abuse treatment facilities as alcohol and other drug disorders are increasingly recognized as a major problem, in need of being more effectively addressed. A primary goal of each TIP publication is to convey "frontline" information quickly but responsibly. For this reason, TIP recommendations are attributed either to the clinical experience of expert panelists, or to findings from cited research literature.
