Addressing Co-occurring Addiction and PTSD
Breakout presentation at NASW-Michigan’s Annual Conference
Among adults with substance use disorders, a high prevalence of historical trauma and associated PTSD is well-established. This presentation will describe an effective clinical sequence, from engagement to evidence-based group and individual treatments, including symptom-scaling for diagnostic & treatment planning considerations, and outcome measurement. The group work modalities of Seeking Safety and TREM/M-TREM will be featured, as well as therapies including Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral approaches, and Prolonged Exposure Therapy.
